Description
I'm getting tired and need somewhere to begin.
~ Somewhere Only We Know (Keane)
I was going to try to draw something jolly, but NOPE. Music changes my mood a lot when I draw.
There are two versions of this picture and really neither is the version that's more true. I just so happened to like this edit a lot better.
While I was editing this, I realised just how much I had unintentionally gone with the old light and dark cliche. Certain points I noticed:
Mielle can see while Utsumi cannot.
Mielle's colouring is compared to a summer's day (yellow hair, bright blue eyes) while Utsumi's is like a moonlit night (dark hair, pale skin).
Utsumi has a brighter outward disposition but his emotional well-being is darker and more shaken whereas Mielle has a slightly stormy outward manner but has an unshakable belief and faith in himself which, somehow, I've always associated with light.
Both have their own religions: the Light of Akesato (Utsumi) and the Ivory Fellowship (Mielle). The stories of how the world was made between the two are also in direct opposition to each other.
The Light of Akesato believes the world was abandoned once by a god called the Man of Many Faces and the power he left over in the stars created a bear in the night sky and she filled the world with life.
The Ivory Bird was believed to have been pulled from the Lord of the Sky when he fell in love with the Mistress of the Sea and was initially a messenger for the two lovers. When it grew tired, the Lord of the Sky created land for the Bird to rest on. (I'm still working on this story. OJZ)
Characters: Utsumi Katsuhiko & Mielle D'Arcy (c) me
Lyrics: Somewhere Only We Know by Keane
